The Mindful Glow Up Checklist: 11 Steps

1. Overcome limiting beliefs

How often do you catch yourself thinking, “I can’t do this” or “I’m not good enough”? Despite our best efforts, it happens to all of us.

One of the most impactful things we can do is acknowledge and overcome our limiting beliefs. The first step starts with recognizing the beliefs that may be holding you back.

Which thoughts come up most often when you’re feeling scared, nervous, or overwhelmed?

Once you’re aware of the common limiting beliefs you have, next, you’ll want to challenge and reframe them. Question how valid each belief is. Look for any evidence in your life that proves each of them wrong.

The more you repeat this process, the more you’ll slowly rewire those negative thoughts into positive ones. Use affirmations to help you reinforce your positive beliefs.

2. Set new challenges for yourself

A great way to exercise your mind is by setting challenges that push you out of your comfort zone. It’s easy to keep doing what we’ve always done, but there’s nothing more empowering than completing a challenge.

As for what challenge to do, this is entirely up to you. You can dive into a new hobby or skill, perhaps something you’ve always wanted to do. Give yourself a framework and time period, and jump in.

Want something a little more structured? Tackle an already existing challenge like 75 Hard health challenge or the 100 Day Project focused on creativity. Just do a little search online and you’ll find endless examples of challenges you can partake in, and likely, communities of people who are going through it too.

At the end of the day, by conquering any challenge you choose, the feeling is the same. Not only will you be proud of what you’ve accomplished, but your confidence will also shine through. Hello glow up!

3. Say “No” more often

Are you a “yes-woman”? Is it hard for you to say no? Personally, I can be a people-pleaser and have said yes when I most definitely wanted to say no.

But there’s a secret power in saying no, especially when your gut is telling you so. Every time you say no to something that doesn’t excite you, you’re prioritizing your own needs. You’re then able to make space for the things that truly lift you up and energize you.

One of my favorite sayings that’s ingrained in my mind: “If it’s not a HECK YES, it’s a HECK NO”.

So the next time you’re faced with invitations or requests that doesn’t align with you, simply say no. Protect your boundaries, and say yes to yourself instead.

4. Surround yourself with the right people

circle of friends

By “right” people, I mean, the people who feel like they fit in your life. These are usually the individuals who bring you the right energy, can be honest with you, and have mutual respect built within the relationship.

Evaluate your own inner circle. Let go of the ones who bring you down. It’s not worth keeping people around who bring negativity, or make you doubt or question yourself.

Seek out the energizers! The ones who bring you good vibes every time you connect.

5. Journal

Journaling is one of the simplest practices to help you look within. It’s an outlet for you to spill your thoughts, without judgment, criticism or fear.

All you need is a notebook, and if possible, a quiet place to connect with yourself.

The options are endless: track your goals, write out your dreams, speak with your inner child, write about your day, write affirmations, and so much more. Not sure where to start? Use these helpful journal prompts.

There’s no such thing as a perfect journaling practice. As long as you allow yourself to be vulnerable with yourself, I promise you’ll find value in taking the time to journal.

6. Practice gratitude

“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” ~ Eckhart Tolle

Cultivating gratitude in our everyday opens us up to more abundance, more happiness, and more success. It’s about taking moments to look around you and appreciate what you’re so lucky to have.

Living in gratitude helps us live in the present and find joy in the little things. Adding this to your glow up checklist will positively influence your mindset!

7. Visualize success

Close your eyes, and imagine the greatest, grandest, version of yourself.

Who is she? What is she doing? Where does she live? What type of life does she live?

Conjure up that image as often as you can. By visualizing your success, the more you call it in for yourself. Nothing great was ever created without someone imagining it first.

Even everything you’re experiencing today, at least some of it was a result of what you imagined in the past.

Your ultimate glow up starts in your mind first. If you need additional reminders to build a visualization practice, create vision boards to keep you inspired.

8. Embrace change

Change can be the scariest, most uncomfortable situations that we have to go through. Interestingly enough, it can also be what leads to powerful personal transformation.

Every big, unsettling change I’ve been dealt with in life, while scary in the moment, always led me to the next level in my journey.

If you’re right in the thick of it, remember to zoom out when you can, and try to see everything from a different light.

What is the meaning behind this season of life? What is the lesson behind everything?

More importantly, know that you’ll get through it, just like you have every single time before.

9. Let go of perfectionism

woman reflecting on life

As a recovering perfectionist, I think of all the time I wasted desperately trying to be in control. It’s impossible for everything to pan out the way that we intend in our minds.

Sound like you, too? All we can do is try the best we can, then to release our grasp on control. What’s going to happen will happen, and we will deal with it then.

It’s empowering to know that sometimes things can turn out even better than we ever planned.

10. Face your fears

Is there something you’ve been afraid to do? Maybe it’s public speaking, or maybe putting yourself out there to make new friends, or anything else in between.

No matter what fear it is, making the choice to overcome it is such a powerful way to glow up your mindset. You’re chipping away at all the limiting beliefs (see above!) you have about yourself, and showing your mind that you can overcome anything.

Start by imagining the best possible outcome, and taking small gradual steps at a time. You’ll feel empowered and more confident with every small step forward.

11. Practice self-compassion

Are you your harshest critic? I know, at times, I am mine. It’s a conscious effort to remind myself to be kind with how I speak to myself.

After all, who will be my biggest fan, if not myself?

So show yourself grace whenever you can. Treat yourself the way you’d treat the ones you love most. Which means, don’t allow for body-shaming, or extreme criticism, or negative language, or demeaning thoughts.

You deserve the love, care, and compassion you show others.

Let go of perfection (see above), and take one inspired action at a time.

Embrace the learnings, the challenges, the opportunities that arise. Celebrate your progress each step of the way.

I can’t wait to hear how it goes!
