The Ultimate List of Fall Self-Care Ideas

1. Make your home cozy

After a busy and likely warm summer, it’s time to start making our home cozy again for the cooler weather. Set up the pretty twinkly lights in all the right spots, light up deliciously scented candles, and pull out all the warm, cozy blankets and pillows.

Now that we’re likely to spend more time indoors, it’s worth it to get your home Fall-ready and enjoyable.

2. Grab all your favourite Fall beverages

Whether you love coffee, tea, or cocktails, you can enjoy all of your favourite seasonal drinks.

It’s a great time to visit your local cafes to try out all the new Fall flavours – from pumpkin spice, to apple cider, cinnamon, and more!

I personally love Pumpkin-spice coffee but enjoy making it myself at home. Visit your local grocery stores to put your own fall twist on any of your usual drinks.

Sometimes, being able to DIY your own seasonal drinks makes it super accessible and indulgent – without unneeded crazy prices!

3. Create a new Fall playlist

New season, new mood, new vibes.

Create a new Fall playlist to match your environment. Imagine what songs feel warm, cozy, and perfect for days when you stay at home cuddled up in blankets, drinking your favourite Fall beverage.

4. Get new books to read

Is it just me, or does Fall season scream “Get lost in a new book” season. As the leaves fall, and the rain pours, there’s nothing quite like sitting at home bundled up on the couch with a book.

One of my recent favourite subscriptions is Scribd, which is an online library that operates like Netflix. You get access to digital books, audiobooks, magazines, podcasts and more – all at a great price! I highly recommend you check it out – I tell everyone about it!

If you want to be more budget-friendly, there’s always the beautiful perk of going to your local library. Grab several books at a time to stock up for the season!

5. Start a new journal

The start of a new season always feels transformative in its own way. It’s the beginning of something new. This also makes it perfect timing to start a new journal!

Whether you’re an avid journaler or have yet to give it a try – it’s a good time to start fresh.

Grab a cute new journal, some fun pens, and just start writing. It’s a therapeutic and meditative experience – plus there’s something special about starting a fresh new notebook.

6. Swap your wardrobe over for fall

As we start to need our summer clothes less and less, it’s time to start swapping your wardrobe over to fall!

Pack those summer clothes away, and pull out all your warm, cozy sweaters and comfy pants. In the process – let go of items you no longer use or love.

7. Treat yourself to new warm fall clothing

While I’m not so big on following trends, I love picking up a few new pieces to add to my wardrobe each season.

Go on a little shopping spree and treat yourself to items that can elevate your current wardrobe and allow for even more mixing and matching.

If you’re into it, go try out some of the trends, or maybe you can finally invest in pieces you’ve always wanted but never splurged on.

I finally bought a timeless trench coat after putting it off season after season – and I can’t wait to wear it!

What items can you add to your wardrobe that can make you feel like a million bucks?

8. Get back to your daily routine

..Or start one if you don’t have one yet.

I get it. I’ve noticed that over time, my daily routine has evolved again and again. Sometimes I get off track, especially when life feels busy.

Summer can be a busy period with trips, many events, and lots of fluctuations in our schedule.

Fall is a great season for us to be intentional with our daily routine and get back to consistency.

If you have been consistent (props!) maybe consider switching it up a little bit. Sometimes variety and change can also bring excitement to our long-standing routines!

9. Get organized

There isn’t a better time to get organized, in any (or all) parts of your life! Let’s be honest, this year has been a whirlwind. With all the ups and downs of living through a pandemic, it can also reflect in our life.

If you’re wanting to be more on top of your life, here are a few things to get organized:

  • Your desktop
  • Your digital files & folders
  • Your closets & drawers
  • Your pantry
  • Your fridge & freezer
  • Your purses
  • Your desk
  • Your phone apps

And so on! Look around you – notice your physical and digital environment. Assess what needs organization and make it happen.

You’ll feel lighter and in control afterward!

10. Declutter your home

Not only do you want to organize everything, but while you’re at it, it’s a perfect opportunity to declutter.

Fall is a season of releasing and letting go. Declutter your home to release the things you no longer need.

Maybe there are clothes that no longer fit or items that no longer match your lifestyle, or perhaps you’ve just outgrown things.

It’s a great exercise in letting go and moving on. As a result, you’ll also make space for new and wonderful things.

Decluttering only makes space for more items that you absolutely adore.

11. Get clear on your goals for the rest of the year

So when was the last time you looked at your New Year’s goals? How are they going so far?

Review those goals and reassess which ones you want to crush by the end of the year.

Or perhaps, things have changed since then and you want to set entirely new goals.

The point is –  you’ve still got time to make those goals happen. By getting clear on your goals in this season, you intentionally prepare yourself to achieve them.

Nothing says fall like delicious cozy desserts. Make all the brownies, cakes, pastries that you love – or that your loved ones would enjoy!

Yummy treats are always better when shared with your favourite people.

14. Invest in Yourself

I’m a true believer in the power of investing in yourself. I believe that there’s nothing quite as important as investing in your growth, development, and well-being.

Whether you’re investing in:

  • Courses
  • Coaches or Mentors
  • Memberships
  • Books
  • Self-care

Affirmations are powerful tools for our personal growth and mindset. Whenever we repeat empowering affirmations to ourselves, the more we reinforce the truth of that statement.

If we intentionally choose affirmations that we resonate with and repeat them often, we get to create our dream life – one affirmation at a time!

The start of a new season is perfect for us to review your affirmations and create new ones.

Here are a few examples:

  • I choose to level up my life in this season
  • I will make the most of every moment I have left in 2021

16. Plan for the Holiday season

The holiday season is coming! With so many exciting holidays and events throughout the Fall and Winter, it’s time to start preparing (mentally and financially)!

Start thinking about potential events you’ll attend, gifts you might need to buy, or even trips you might make this year (considering all safety measures of course).

You might also want to start saving now, in order to feel comfortable and on top of your finances when the time comes to spend on gifts, events, and all the wonderful things that the holidays bring.

Ever wanted to start a new hobby but couldn’t find the time? Sometimes, we have to make that time. Make this season the one where you finally get new hobbies.

20. Embrace Hygge

This year, I discovered hygge.

Hygge is a Danish concept that means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people.

The colder seasons are perfect for us to discover hygge, build warm atmospheres, and spend time with the people we love!

I read The Little Book of Hygge in just one sitting – discovering all the ways to incorporate hygge into my life. I highly suggest checking it out and learning the beauty that comes with slowing down.

21. Note down what you want to let go of this season

One activity I love doing is writing down all the things I need LESS of in my life.

I did this recently, and some of the things I wrote on my list include:

  • less fear
  • less judgment
  • less comparison
  • less social media
  • less negative thoughts

As you recognize things you need less of, you can also note things that you want to release completely from your life.
